CAPS Pilot Launch
The VFCCE recently hosted the College Attainment for Parent Students (CAPS) pilot launch meeting. Access to opportunity is at the heart of the VCCS mission and the CAPS program supports this mission by serving more part-time, adult students. Non-traditional students who have families and full- or part-time jobs, are currently not supported in the fullest capacity, and the CAPS program will offer the additional support services desperately needed. The CAPS pilot launched with the following community colleges: Brightpoint, Central Virginia, Germanna, New River, and Tidewater. This pilot is intended to build a “blueprint” on best implementation practices for future rollout to the remainder of the Commonwealth.
The launch meeting included program experts from HCM Strategists and Generation Hope to provide their invaluable insights. Ms. Nicole Lynn Lewis, Founder & CEO of Generation Hope, shared her struggles as a young mother who attended William & Mary while also raising her daughter. Her story can be found in the book Pregnant Girl: A Story of Teen Motherhood, College, and Creating a Better Future for Young Families.
We look forward to keeping you updated on the ongoing progress of our CAPS program.
