We Understand Your Challenges

If you’re like many Virginians, you may believe that college is beyond your reach—either financially, culturally, or practically. Maybe you attended college for a while but struggled to complete your degree because you lacked the support you needed to balance the real world demands of jobs, family, finances, or relationships. Perhaps you simply need someone to help you navigate your options and make the best decisions to help you reach your goals.

Through career coaching, emergency support, scholarships, fellowships, and more, the VFCCE works to make community college education affordable and accessible for all Virginians.

The Virginia Foundation for Community College Education helps students achieve what they never thought possible. Learn more about our signature programs below. Find out how the VFCCE may be able to help you.

Learn More About Signature Programs

A graduate of the Power Line Workers program at Southside Virginia Community College, James secured a job with River City Construction soon after graduation. The company provides power line construction and maintenance and often answers the call for post storm damage.

Signature Programs

These unique educational initiatives were created to serve specific geographic areas or students with specific obstacles or needs to achieve results that help them reach their educational and career goals.

VFCCE signature programs include:

Great Expectations

For youth who have experienced foster care, adolescence is a search for someone who is willing to invest in their future. Here in Virginia, that search can end in success thanks to Great Expectations.

Rural Virginia Horseshoe Initiative (RVHI)

In Virginia’s “rural horseshoe” region, high school too often marks the end of a student’s educational journey. Because Virginia’s community colleges have the geographic reach and the capacity to help in these areas, the Rural Virginia Horseshoe Initiative is making higher education accessible and affordable where it’s most needed.

Scholarships and Fellowships

VFCCE scholarships and fellowships are the initiatives that help to unlock lifetimes of potential. Direct tuition assistance lets promising students across the Commonwealth prepare for in-demand careers within their local communities.

"I've been extremely lucky because of this support system that's permitted me to maximize my education dollars instead of taking on student debt which could limit my job options post-university. My Fellowship means that I can focus on finding a career best suited to me instead of merely one that can pay my student loans."

Samantha

Graduate, Valley Proteins Fellow

Success Is Closer Than You Think

The Commonwealth of Virginia is expected to fill 1.4 million jobs over the next decade, the majority of which will require a career certificate or associate degree. However, in a recent study, Virginia businesses report tens of thousands of middle-skill jobs are already going unfilled due to a shortage of qualified candidates.

What does that mean for you? It means that by investing in your education now, you’ll be prepared to enter a flourishing job market with the skills needed to succeed in your life and your career.
