The Virginia Foundation for Community College Education

Student Success Fund

Overcoming everyday obstacles to student success.

While the state of Virginia has made major investments to support high-demand workforce programs for low-to-middle-income and at-risk students, there are significant financial barriers not covered by traditional financial aid. The cost of childcare, transportation, housing, food, or an unforeseen medical bill can be more than that of tuition and books, and frequently forces otherwise successful students to drop out. Without access to these basic needs, earning a college degree is difficult—if not impossible.

The VFCCE Student Success Fund is a flexible, vital resource that provides timely assistance to help students overcome unexpected financial barriers, stay enrolled, complete their degrees, and move into the workforce.

Over $300,000 has been distributed to our 23 community colleges since the Fund was established.

With your support, the student success fund can achieve its mission to:

  • Reduce students dropping out of college due to basic needs insecurity
  • Support the statewide HIRE Virginia goal of filling 75,000 middle-skill jobs in Virginia
  • Double the number of students who achieve graduation, degree or credential achievement, or transfer to a four-year institution
  • Achieve a 75% semester-to-semester retention rate
  • Support basic needs components of existing VFCCE innovation programs that focus on parent students, former foster youth, rural residents, and many more deserving Virginians.
